Masked creatures wearing  the vestments of authority (colorful robes, perhaps, or the uniforms of an army, or sturdy armor- in any case they must be bright and gleaming and splendorous, impressive to the last knob and buckle) ransack his home. Furniture, clothing, books, paper and tools are scattered to the cobbles. The INNOCENT MAN himself is collared and on his knees, pleading with them not to damage his things too badly, and wincing at every careless toss, each precious object shattered against the stone. One of them speaks to him, blithely, almost pityingly.*
